As a contractor, I see plenty of poorly constructed attics that have no attic ventilation at all. One of the first things that I like to do is open it up so that it is a space that is breathable and can be used as another room if someone wants to make it so. There is nothing worse than an attic where all your stuff will smell like dust and mold if left up there. Just by installing a functioning window, you are able to clear out the air and use the space for an office, a bedroom or just to store extra stuff if you like.
