Diabetic foot
September 28th, 2009 by admin
The foot in those with diabetes is at high risk of develops complications. The pathological process of diabetes result from the high glucose levels, which damage many of the bodies systems. This puts the foot at risk for damage – the so called diabetic foot. The nerves lose their ability to feel so damage can happen to the foot and cannot be detected. The circulation is decreased, so when the damage does happen healing is poor or even non-existent. The inflammatory response which is involved in responding to damage is impaired. The cells involved in this process cannot do their job properly. This means that those with diabetes have to take great care not to damage their feet.
