Fast and Easy Approach to Lose Weight

I really feel very awkward when I step into a gym and I try to maneuver around any of the machines or try to put together a few weights so that I can lift them into yet another awkward position or stance. I am just not coordinate, nor am I confident around a gym. I do know that I was told the best way to get my average weight for height was to do some muscles toning and lose the fat. Sure, aerobics would help and I am quite good at running but I need a good cross training program to feel the effects fast.
